Kilfrost ABC-S®

Type IV Anti-icing / Deicing Fluid

ABC-S is a Type IV propylene glycol based aircraft anti-icer/deicer that meets FAA-approved specifications for use by commercial airlines and military bases.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to regulations on this product we are restricted to military sales only.

Description of Kilfrost ABC-S®

Kilfrost ABC-S® is a propylene glycol Type IV aircraft deicing/anti-icing fluid. ABC-S meets or exceeds FAA approved specification AMS 1428, and is approved for use by all major aircraft manufacturers. ABC-S has the longest holdover performance in all snow conditions over competitive products, superior sprayability, long-term fluid stability, and excellent fluid dryout and elimination. ABC-S was developed by Kilfrost Limited in Haltwhistle, UK, and is manufactured and supplied in the Americas by Cryotech. Please see the product MSDS for additional information.

Please see the ABC-S Fact Sheet for a brief summary of ABC-S's benefits, application information, and product specifications.

Kilfrost ABC-S® Storage/Handling Guidelines

Propylene Glycol Aircraft Deicers

Customers frequently ask if material in their storage, handling, and application equipment is compatible with propylene glycol aircraft deicers. There are technical differences between propylene glycol deicers from various producers, usually in the formulation of corrosion inhibitors. Therefore, some differences in material compatibility are expected. The following information applies to Kilfrost ABC-S® Type IV, which contains a minimum of 50% propylene glycol, by weight.

DELIVERY

The actual discharge of bulk material to storage is normally carried out under the supervision of a representative of the customer. However, before opening the discharge valve the tanker driver should, as far as he is able, confirm that the vehicle is coupled to the correct storage tank and that it has sufficient free capacity to accept the delivery. The delivery note includes a declaration that the installation is ready to receive the delivery, which is signed by the customer's representative before discharge.

The driver is responsible for ensuring that the discharge valve and any delivery hoses carried by the vehicle are clean and will not cause contamination of the product.

The driver, in conjunction with the customer's representative, should take two samples of the product, from the top manhole, prior to discharge. These must be labeled with the product name, delivery reference, and date. The customer retains one sample. The other sample must be returned to Cryotech at 6103 Orthoway, Fort Madison, Iowa 52627. All samples should be retained for two years.

The customer & #8250s representative on completion of the discharge must sign the delivery note.

Avoid Problems...

Do not mix propylene glycol fluids from different manufacturers, except at approved concentrations.

Do not mix propylene glycol fluids with ethylene glycol fluids.

Sampling Procedure

Reference the suggested sampling procedure prior to sending a sample to Cryotech's Quality Assurance Lab. Contact FYVE STAR, Inc. or Cryotech with any questions by phone (800)346-7237 or email.

Application Variances

* Precipitation Type and Rate
* Temperature
* Deicing Equipment
* Fuel Temperature in Wings
* Operator Experience

STORAGE TANKS

Stainless steel storage tanks are recommended. Piping should also be of stainless steel and flow passage surfaces smooth and free of sharp edges or tight bends. Use of pipework less than 2-inch internal diameter should be avoided.

Note - tanks and piping must be thoroughly clean prior to filling with ABC-S.

PUMPS

Pumping can damage ABC-S and certain pump types (e.g. gear) are unsuitable. Progressing cavity type pumps are recommended for most situations.
